Sweetie, I am 57...this is NOT homework. do not worry.Answer: Peter and I were supposed to have been at the cabin to meet our friends several hours ago. We were supposed to celebrate Christmas up there in the hills. But, of course, we forgot to bring the map and Peter refused to stop for directions. I just knew we were lost, but he refused to admit it. It started to get dark, and it started to lightly snow. I was not pleased at all, but I kept telling myself "It's not time to panic..." When the snow started coming down in heavy drifts, I kept on telling myself, "It's not time to panic, yet... but almost time!" By this time, I was really getting worried. "Peter," I told him. "I don't want to freeze to death up here. We should find somewhere to bunk for the night... Or find someone to ask for directions!" He didn't accept my critique, but did agree, "Yeah, we should find somewhere to sleep." As if our mentioning somewhere to stay had summoned the house to us, we saw a small log cabin just down the road. We parked the car right out front and went up to the door. Peter knocked, but there was no answer. He tried the door. It swung open without any resistance. "Hello?" he called. "Anyone home?" There was no answer. We stepped inside and closed the door behind us. I looked around. The place was quite cobwebby, and I jumped as I saw a mouse run across the floor. "Thank goodness you're with me honey," I shivered. I turned to look at him... but he wasn't there! "Honey? HONEY? WHERE ARE YOU?!!!" I cried. Then, the jerk jumped up behind me, and said in a spooky voice, "A little louder, please... I don't think the GHOSTS heard you. Bwah-hahahaha-haaaa!" I slapped him on the shoulder. "Shut up! I'm creeped out enough as it is!" He laughed. Then he clapped his hands together, saying "Now, what would Miss Kitty and Marshal Dillon do at a time like this?" I grinned at him. "I don't know. They'd probably find a light." He nodded and started looking for a match or something to give us a little light. Suddenly I felt a pressure on my shoulder. "Stop it, Peter. Find a light," I laughed. "Stop what?" he called from across the room. I felt my eyes go wide, and I could barely breathe. "Please tell me that YOUR hand is on my shoulder!!" I heard his bewilderment in his voice. "No, not if it's still attached to my arm, which it is, which is over here with the rest of me." Slowly I craned my neck. There! On my shoulder! It was a hand... but nothing else! I screamed and dove out the door. Peter followed me into the car. "Lock the door!" I told him, even though I knew it probably wouldn't do any good against a ghost. He did, and then asked me, "What's wrong?" I just shivered, trying to tell him but couldn't. I looked up and I gasped, watching a light in the window of the cabin flicker and go out. "Oh... my... Gawd... did you see that?" I felt myself almost screaming. He shook his head. "That... that must be the headlights reflecting off of something. You're just letting your imagination run away with you. Let's... let's go ahead and go." We drove off in silence, but I KNOW what I saw in there. The ghostly hand held a lantern up to the window, and it waved goodbye to us as the light went out.
