Question: How do I get the children to pay attention while working on the mat in my classroom?
I am a training teacher and I am currently on a teaching placement. I am doing a mini action research assignment and my question is, How can I get the children to pay more attention while working on the mat (especially the boys)? This is a problem for my associate teacher so I've decided to choose this question for the basis for my assignment. I need to research ideas in which I could try and make this problem better then put this research into action.
Any ideas would be amazing.
Thanks =)Answer: Always be animated. Do not use a monotone voice. Also- stress positive reinforcement! When you are feeling your are losing them...whisper. Very softly say, "whoever can hear me will get a special treat" and say it a couple of times. You will see the kids take action, and being to shoo-sh the other kids so they can get a treat too.
Young children are fun, but challenging to work with. This is the method that has worked for me in the past.Good Luck!
